Byeynyn's review of ABDC6's Lil Wayne Challenge

You have no idea how much I’ve missed this show, probably because you don’t know who I am. But after a whole year, I’m pumped for Season Six. I’m so pumped that I’m going to provide my own recap of the episodes.

But let me get a few issues out of the way. I’m skeptical about this season’s music selection, and the challenges have gotten more ridiculous since the first season, and needlessly so. I suspect that a lot of these crews might be held back by both this season. Can you imagine krumping to Justin Bieber, or while performing a magic trick? I feel it’s like judging Paul McCartney based on how well he sings “Friday.” Second, D-Trix is the third judge who replaces Omarion (whom I do not miss). Despite his horn-dog tendencies, at least Shane Sparks provided the credibility of an articulate hip-hop choreographer, a unique perspective that won’t be offered by JC (not hip-hop), D-Trix (not a choreographer), or Lil Mama (not articulate). D-Trix does a passable job for now, but that void is still hard to fill.

Ninjaboi's review of ABDC's Lil Wayne Challenge

Can it be? Yes it can! Ninjaboi makes his return to BABDC.  Well, at least the review part of his job here on the site. For those of you who don’t know me, I’m Ninjaboi.  Nice to meetcha.  I’m a moderator here on the site so I get to read all your comments.  I also help Nancy out with posting. One thing I did last season was to write up reviews of each episode, which for some reason people really liked. *confused*  I guess I’m back, due to popular demand?

And for those of you are gonna question where this whippersnapper gets the authority to judge crews like this… Well, I’m just a human being like ya’ll who happens to be decent at putting his thoughts together in writing, combined with analytical skills.  I’m also a bboy (Reppin Freaks of the Beat), and a popper. So I hope you at least consider these humble opinions of mine when looking at the crews.

Click here for Ninjaboi's rating scale and review of the performances in the Lil Wayne Challenge by IaMmE, Phunk Phenomenon, ReQuest, Eclectic Gentlemen, and Street Kingdom. Thanks Ninjaboi!

Video: Eclectic Gentlemen talk about ABDC, show their audition routine and ABDC rehearsals

WildaBeast and K.love of Eclectic Gentlemen posted a video talking about their ABDC experience, what they're planning to do next, and thanking their fans and viewers. There's also footage of their ABDC6 audition and their rehearsals for the Lil Wayne Challenge. From beast9688 Youtube.

One of my least favorite aspects of America's Best Dance Crew is that the first few episodes of every season usually sends a worthy crew home much too soon. I was looking forward to watching Eclectic Gentlemen on ABDC for longer, and hope to watch them perform live in the near future.

BJhayPinoy's Review of ABDC6's Ep. 1: The Lil Wayne Challenge

Hey Guys! It's BJhayPinoy back with the hourly reviews (for the most part created in an hour or a little more). I create these reviews in about an hour so please excuse my typos, errors, and grammatical flaws.  Usually, I include a ranking of what I believed to be the best performances right down to the worst performances, but for the first two episodes I'll keep it as only a review + criticism.

Click here to read his full review of IaMmE,  Phunk Phenomenon, ReQuest, Eclectic Gentlemen, and Street Kingdom. Thanks BJhayPinoy!

TiVO Alert: Jungle Boogie (from America's Best Dance Crew Season 5) are among the stars on tonight's Silent Library, airing on MTV at 7pm ET/PT.  don't know what the crew will be doing on this Japanese-game-show-style competition, but it should be interesting.

Chris Trondsen and Brian Puspos talked to IaMmE before the taping of ABDC's first episode. Video: Molasses Gang Debut

There has been a lot of speculation that Molasses Gang was formed as a 'hate' group for one of the crews on ABDC6. Let us set the record straight now: that is NOT the case. Molasses Gang was formed as an inside joke amongst friends and has absolutely NO relevance towards this season of ABDC. The only crew MG shows ANY bias towards is 787 Crew because they da homies...and got pretty hurr. MG & 787 Crew!!!!! 2011 Till Infinitiiiii!!!!!!!!....swag.

Video: ABDC6 Episode 1 Group Performance

MTV (and some intrepid Youtubers) posted the group performance for ABDC6's Lil Wayne Challenge. So, here for the first time on the America's Best Dance Crew stage are IaMmE, Eclectic Gentlemen, ReQuest, Phunk Phenomenon, and Street Kingdom. Thanks Brett, Taff1013 and numerous commenters!

We have interviews with all the crews who performed that day and some other surprises and will post them soon. But we're starting with Brian and Chris' Pre-show, where they talk about the crews that would perform on the show airing April 7 -- IaMmE, Eclectic Gentlemen, Phunk Phenomenon, ReQuest, and Street Kingdom -- and what they're looking forward to seeing. Mos Wanted Crew - World of Dance Video, new Youtube Channel, and photo

Mos Wanted Crew just launched their MosWantedCrewTV Youtube Channel. They inaugurated it with their  2011 World of Dance Los Angeles performance (a routine created in just 4 days). And, I love this photo of the group!

Video: WOD Field reporter Isaac gets finger tutting advice from Quest's Hok

Isaac covered World of Dance Los Angeles for BloggingBestDanceCrew (read his report here). At the event, he met Hok (Quest, So You Think You Can Dance), showed Hok his tutting skills and got some technical tips. On poppiniSiK Youtube.

Non-spoiler reports from the taping for Thursday's show

Here's some brief non-spoilery news about the episode that will air on this Thursday, from TimeToFlytoThe Cheese, Crazed Beats, and YoYoYo. I promised MTV that I would hold off all reporting about the April 14 episode until after the April 7 one aired, so I'll post Yoo's report early next week. Thanks guys!
-------------------------------------
From TTFTTC and Crazed Beats: Five crews performed --Street Kingdom, Eclectic Gentlemen,.I.aM.mE, Phunk Phenomenon, and ReQuest...The five crews danced to Lil Wayne songs and they were all amazing!!! I think the judges had the hardest decision for this one. But somebody had to go. New stage, new judge, and new crews are gonna take this show to a whole new level.

From YoYoYo (edited by Nancy):
  • IaMmE was up first.....very clean and sharp...Their story is that Jaja is not from america and she left home to dance in America
  • Phunk Phenomenon were like Rhythm City meets Phresh Select...very versatile crew. Their story is that the leaders' father passed away and it was his dream for his boys to be on the show.
  • Request-  very clean, sharp, and hard....story is that Kaili has a birthmark on her face and she always felt self conscious
  • Eclectic Gentlemen- they had fireman....they were very clean and versatile with tricks and isos and popping
  • Street Kingdom-everyone SK knew was at the taping. They did free-style the whole time

BABDC Collab the Third

Last Friday, I made a post about the third BABDC Collab that may or may not have been an April Fools Joke. It wasn't.
Ninjaboi Productions proudly presents the third Blogging America's Best Dance Crew Collaboration Video.

Just a couple production notes I wanted to share.
-This video was about 2 months in the making, from conception to completion (though I guess the choice of Yeah 3x as the song was chosen long before).
-I know the credits are really long (almost as long as the collab itself, but please watch it, even through my fail tutting).  If you wish to connect with these dancers, I have included their contact information.
-If the credit dancing doesn't look like it matches the music, it's because I used excess footage from whatever was sent for Yeah 3x that were cut for time purposes.
-The dedication to Japan is something personal for me (though I don't doubt that the other dancers feel the same), but this video was not conceptualized with that intent.  However, I strongly encourage that you continue to help relief efforts.
If you are interested in being in the next collab, it won't be for a while, but email me anyway (provided in the video). Just a note that BABDC members who are agreeable and consistent are more likely to be considered for the next collab.

Finally, I'd like to say thank you (again) to
-Nancy, for being an awesome mod
-All the dancers for participating and putting up with my nagging
-Special thanks to our guest dancers
-Members of the BABDC community who did not dance but have been very supportive of the site as a whole.
-Dance crews for inspiring us to dance
-viewers like you

Isaac's Field Report on 2011 World of Dance Los Angeles

Overall, this was, in my opinion the best World of Dance to date, considering I have been to 4 in the last 2 years, this being my fourth. A few crews that stood out to me are as follows:
--Hype Jrs. - Killed it the way their older brothers and sisters did. It honestly felt like if it was a little cleaner here and there they may have taken it from Emanon, but they used a great mix of grit, strength and signature island flavor.
--Emanon - It seems every year I see this crew, they get better and better. One part that really stood out was the fact that they elaborated off the lightshow idea they did last year and turned it into a full fledged piece, which held some very cool concepts while still throwing in their signature swag.
------------------------------------------------------
Here's the Hype Jr. video (no video posted for Emanon yet). Click here to read the rest of Isaac's report including his review of Hype, GRV, The Company, Quest Crew, and Mos Wanted Crew. And watch many of the performances here. Thanks Isaac!

Videos from World of Dance LA - Watch Quest Crew and the WOD winners Hype!, GRV, The Company

We'll post a field report about World of Dance later today, but there are many great performance videos from the event. Pacific Rim has the best early coverage, with videos of Urban Movement, third place winner The Company, 2nd place winner GRV, and Mos Wanted Crew (we'll post the World of Dance video of their performance later!). Here are two of our favorites from the night: 1st Place winners Hype, and Quest Crew (in exhibition).

If you attend a taping, leave a comment and let us know what it was like -- the judges, the atmosphere, the crowd, the crews, the costumes, celebrities, you name it.

EXTREMELY IMPORTANT -- NO SPOILERS. DO NOT SAY (OR EVEN IMPLY) THE FATE OF ANY OF THE CREWS, INCLUDING WHETHER THEY WERE SAFE, IN SUDDEN DEATH, OR ELIMINATED! Trailer for Honey 2, featuring members of Quest, Beat Freaks, Fanny Pak, Strikers

"Honey 2" not only features some of the more memorable dancers from America's Best Dance Crew, including Quest Crew, Beat Freaks, Fanny Pak, Strikers All-stars, and Super Cr3w.  It uses ABDC (called Battle Zone for the movie) as a plot device, with Mario Lopez as host. Here's the trailer -- are you looking forward to this movie yet?

Video: Meet the members of IaMmE

ABDC6 competitors IaMmE created a video to introduce each of the crew members, give their group and contact information, their motivations for dancing, and talk about whether they'll still be dancing years from now.  This was posted on PacMan Youtube (the channel that was taken down by Youtube earlier, but has been fully restored with all the older IaMmE and other dance videos); the video also mentions that they are starting a PacinMotion Youtube Channel for new dance videos. Thanks for the link, Koopa and LMFAO!
